Sharawadji

There is a term called sharawadji that, in the 17th century, journeyed from China to Europe with travelers along The Silk Road.

To talk of sharawadji is to refer to that feeling of fullness, of plentitude, experienced when in the presence of something—a sound, an artwork, a visual, a movement or gesture—of inexplicable beauty that is often unplanned, perhaps chaotic, outside the normal aesthetic, happening without artifice. We are struck. Diverted by beauty, by the imperceptible that is nevertheless present.
