The power of the arts to heal is tremendous. It doesn’t matter if you come to creative arts therapy with experience in an arts area—such as formal schooling and a degree, taking classes, or years of a hobby or craft in which you have developed a level of skill—or if you come with no formal training in the arts but love to listen to music, or love to dance, or to draw and paint, love reading mysteries, practice meditation or mindfulness, secretly write poetry that no one reads. Creative arts therapy uses all of these arts areas and more, according to the interests and preferences of each individual client.
Creative arts areas include music and sound, painting and the visual arts, dance and movement, yoga, mindfulness, cooking and culinary arts, gardening and horticulture arts, language arts and the written and spoken word.
